Root: I Am Here
Oct 1: I AM HERE
We begin with our roots: the body, the earth, and the earliest developmental experience of simply existing. Before reaching, choosing, or becoming, we begin by yielding.
The Shape: Prone Rest (Makarasana)
Lie on your belly with your forehead resting on stacked hands. Let your legs and feet settle about as wide as the hips, or however they’re comfortable. Notice where your body meets the ground and where your breath moves through your back ribs. Rather than trying to relax, experiment with giving the floor a little more of your weight.
If lying on your belly isn’t accessible, please choose any position where you can clearly feel support beneath you.
The Mantra: I Am Here.
Say out loud or in your mind, I am here. You do not have to believe it. Notice what happens in your body when you hear the words. Allow your breath to support any emotions or sensations that arise.
Notice what is already true right now: the floor is beneath you, your body has weight, breath is moving, and you are here.
Linger for one song, 4–8 breaths, or about two minutes. Choose your way.
